The S3 Object Archive allows external products to access the power and flexibility of archiving to LTO and LTFS storage with the P5 Archive module. Compatible with Amazon S3 Glacier Flexible and Deep Archive storage classes, objects received via the S3 interface are archived with full management of tapes, drives, and libraries. Third-party software, including MAM, DAM, and PAM systems, can now effortlessly archive data, also to LTO tape, using their own S3 client interface.

LTO tape was created to combine the strong features of some predecessor tape technologies, avoid the weaknesses and create a standard with multiple vendors.

New LTO generations are introduced regularly with higher capacity and transfer rates, along with new features to further protect your data and content. LTO specifications for backward compatibility up to generation seven of the technology is to write back one generation and read back two generations. The LTO Program regularly publishes and updates an LTO roadmap with information on new generations.
